GOALIE CAMP GRANT

OBJECTIVE: The primary purpose of this Grant fund will be to aid the lacrosse players at South Portland High School. Specifically for enrichment and development of the South Portland Boys + Girls Lacrosse teams. For enrichment not covered by the South Portland HS athletic fund or the Lacrosse boosters. Examples of such available funding: Player enrichment camp assistance (Goalie specific). 

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
 Grant will be awarded to a specific applicant Goalie. (Goalie award up to 800.00) 

The decisions of the selection committee will be final, and reason(s) for their decisions will not be made public. 

Eligibility for individual Goalie assistance: Parents must be current and active member of the South Portland High School Lacrosse Booster Club (Boys or Girls) if your child is seeking goalie assistance. (Must Volunteer for at least 1 fundraiser, participate in all booster activities, and attend monthly meetings if possible. It is mandatory to be eligible, that the player, and a parent or guardian volunteer at Ted Hellier LAXFEST.  

  • Student athlete must be a HS JV or Varsity Lacrosse player in good standing or rising Freshman.

  • Student athlete must have a GPA of at least 2.0.

  • Student athlete must submit 2 recommendations, 1 from a member of coaching staff and 1 from a non-coaching staff member.

  • Student athlete must submit a short essay on “ How attending goalie camp will better the SOPO Boys/Girls Lax team”.

  • Student athlete must “pay it forward”... by attending Youth lacrosse clinics and share their goalie knowledge within the youth/MS Programs.

  • Maintain athletic eligibility.

  • Participate in lacrosse fundraising activities, Ted Hellier LAXFEST is a must.

  • Strong team spirit and commitment to working as a team. 

  • Will embody a certain “Tedness”


Ted Hellier was youth coach who believed in his players, all of his players. He expected 3 things from his players be relentless, play as team and to have fun! He believed any child could play lacrosse, who had the desire, practiced hard and made the choice to work together as a team. He was an advocate for his boys, and a diehard fan.


For those of you who did not know Ted, he was all about the game and playing as a team, not for the benefit of 1 but for the best interest of the team. He was a quiet volunteer, a strong supporter of youth sports, who encouraged all kids to play. Ted was comfortable in his own skin and encouraged all to be their best.

Applicants will be judged on the following criteria:

  • Athletic participation – performing to the best of their athletic ability.

  • Leadership – providing a positive example for others, being a good role model, exhibiting good sportsmanship.

  • Contribution to Team – being a team player, helping others to improve.

  • Commitment to Excellence – putting in extra work, being dedicated, and striving to be well prepared.

All grant submissions are reviewed by and voted on by the THCLF Board. You will be notified if your grant submission is accepted.
